James Marks, Jeffrey Miller, Lauren Hollins
James G. Marks Jr., MD is Professor and Chair Emeritus of Dermatology at the Penn State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine. A 1971 graduate of Temple University School of Medicine, he served as a general medical officer in the United States Air Force before completing his dermatology residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Marks has published over 180 articles and book chapters, holds two patents, and is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology and the Society for Investigative Dermatology. He has served as a consultant to the Veterans Administration Hospital, a panel leader for the Cosmetic Ingredient Review, and is a past president of the American Contact Dermatitis Society.
Jeffrey J. Miller, MD, MBA has been a dermatology faculty member at Penn State Hershey since 1998, was named chair of the Department of Dermatology in 2014, and currently serves as associate dean for administration and holds the Kenneth and Gwendolyn Katz Endowed Chair. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, completed his dermatology residency and a clinical educator fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, and received his MBA from the Penn State Smeal College of Business in 2010. Dr. Miller has earned dozens of teaching awards, including the 2012 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and is a former president of the Pennsylvania Academy of Dermatology. He specializes in general dermatology and hair loss disorders, has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, and was named the 2025 Dermatologist of the Year by the Pennsylvania Academy of Dermatology.
L. Claire Hollins, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the Penn State University College of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine in 2015 and is board-certified in dermatology. Dr. Hollins serves as a new co-author for the 7th Edition, bringing her clinical expertise to the text. In 2018, she was a Clinical Research Grant Recipient from the American Acne & Rosacea Society, where her research investigated dietary factors associated with hidradenitis suppurativa.
