Dunecan Massey, Nick Cunniffe, Imran Noorani
Dunecan Massey, MA, MBBS, FRCP, PhD is a Fellow, Undergraduate Tutor, Bye-Fellow, and Assistant Director of Studies in Medical Science at Gonville & Caius College, University of Cambridge. He is also a Consultant in Gastroenterology, Intestinal Failure, Small Bowel and Multivisceral Transplantation at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and the Clinical Lead for the Endoscopy Research Programme at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. A graduate of the University of Cambridge, he balances a demanding clinical practice with his commitment to medical education, supervising neuroscience students at his college. He has co-authored numerous research papers on inflammatory bowel disease and other gastrointestinal conditions.
Nick Cunniffe, MA, MBBS, PhD is a Post-CCT Clinical Lecturer in Neurology at the University of Cambridge and a Neurology Specialty Registrar at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. He leads the Cambridge Clinical Remyelination Research group, focusing on novel ways to promote and measure myelin repair (remyelination) in people living with multiple sclerosis (MS). His work includes clinical trials of new therapies and the use of advanced techniques like visual evoked potentials (VEP) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) to assess treatment effects. He is a Fellow of Gonville & Caius College, where he supervises medical students. Beyond neurophysiology, he also co-authors the leading textbook Carpenter’s Neurophysiology.
Imran Noorani, MA, MBBS, PhD is an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Neurosurgery at University College London (UCL) and a postdoctoral Clinical Fellow at the Francis Crick Institute. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Cambridge in 2012 and completed his Clinical PhD at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, where he studied the role of EGFR mutations in brain tumours using novel mouse models and forward genetic screens. His research focuses on extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) and its role in the tumour microenvironment, particularly in glioblastoma—an aggressive form of brain cancer. In 2020, he won the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies’ (EANS) Best Laboratory Paper Prize for his work on identifying novel therapeutic targets for glioblastoma. He also co-authors the leading textbook Carpenter’s Neurophysiology and has co-authored LATER: The Neurophysiology of Decision-Making with the late Roger Carpenter.
